Voting ends

The voting for the 11th national parliamentary election has ended.

The balloting began at 8am and finished at 4am on Sunday.

A total of 16 people has died in election violence so far. At least 50 candidates withdrawn from the contest.

In Rangamati, a local Juba League leader was killed and ten others injured in a clash between BNP and Awami League at Kawkhali upazila in Rangamati.

The deceased was identified as Basir Uddin, General Secretary of Ghaghra union Juba League in the upazila.

The clash ensued between the supporters of Ghaghra union Awami League (AL) and BNP before the voting starts around 7am.

“The tense situation was prevailing in the area. Additional police were deployed on the spot, said Kawkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

In Cumilla, an activist of BNP was allegedly beaten to death by the Chhatra League on the way to a polling centre at Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla.

The deceased was identified as Bachchu Miah, 48.

According to the source, Bachchu was going to the Murgaon government primary school polling centre and intercepted by the leaders and activists of Chhatra League wearing helmets.

Later he was beaten mercilessly and died on the way to Nangolkot hospital.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nangalkot Police Station, said: “The attackers were not identified. Police personnel were sent to the spot.”

Besides, a BNP activist Mojibur Rahman, 35, was killed after receiving a bullet in a clash between AL and BNP at Belashwar government primary school centre on Sunday at 10:30am.

The voting was postponed at the centre.

In Laximpur, an unidentified youth was gunned down by the miscreants at Baralia government primary school centre of Duttapara union in the sadar upazila.

In Chattogram, Juba League activist Deen Mohammad, 28, was killed by BNP-Jamaat at Goronkhain area of Kusumpura union in Patia upazila on Saturday around 9:30pm, according to the local Awami League (AL).

However, BNP said that the murder incident ensued over the inter feud of AL.

Local Jatiya Party (JaPa) candidate Ahmed Kabir, 45, was killed in a clash between AL and JaPa in Bashkhali on Saturday night.

In Rajshahi, local AL activist Miraj Uddin was killed in a clash between AL and BNP at Mohonpur Pakundia school centre over establishing the supremacy on Sunday around 11am. Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police and the spokesperson of the district police Abdur Razzak Khan confirmed the matter to Jago News.

In Narsingdi, AL agent Milon Miah, 45, was hacked to death in a clash between the candidates of AL and independent at Kundolpara government primary school centre in Shibpur upazila on Sunday around 12:15pm. The voting was postponed at the centre, said presiding officer Mahabub Mridha.

In Dinajpur, 65-year-old Mohammad died during a clash between AL and BNP when he was going to the polling centre of Shohorgram Mondolpara government primary school at Birol upazila on Sunday around 12pm. Birol police station officer-in-charge ATM Golam Rasul said Mohammad died of a heart attack.

In Noakhali, Ansar member Nur Nabi Hanju was killed after receiving a bullet in a clash between BNP and AL at Tulachara primary government school centre at Begumganj on Sunday around 12pm.
